Butuanon for SENATOR: Rodolfo Plaza
October 16, 2009One of the senatorial candidate of ERAP-BINAY Coalition is Rodolfo Plaza. A native of Butuan, Agusan. This could be a test fate for him. After Pechay, now its Plaza.
Rodolfo G. Plaza (born March 13, 1958 ) is the current Representative of the Lone District of Agusan del Sur to the 14th Congress of the Philippines. He also represented the same distict to the 12th and 13th Congress of the Philippines (2001-2004 and 2004-2007).
Belonging to the political Plaza clan dominating in the province of Agusan, Ompong, as he is fondly called, was raised as one. His father, Democrito O. Plaza, Sr., is their clan’s patriarch who served in the Butuan City Council in 1956, and as a representative as well as governor of the province. His Mother, Valentina Galido Plaza also served as Governor of the province. His brothers, Adolph Edward and Democrito II and sister, Maria Valentina Plaza Cornelio are also into government service.
Rodolfo finished his elementary and secondary education from Don Bosco Technical Institute in Makati, Metro Manila, in 1971 and 1975, respectively. He is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Southwestern University in Cebu City in 1982. He also pursued a a post graduate course from the University of Santo Tomas (2nd year Law – 1985). In 1995, he obtained his Master’s degree in National Defense from the National Defense College.
The Plaza family is not only known in politics but also in the business world as they hold the logging empire in Agusan, a cement business and a real estate company. This is the reason that aside from holding positions in the government, they also hold position in their companies.
Prior to politics, Ompong was an assistant manager for Alpha Marketing Inc. from 1979 to 1983 and as assistant to the president (1982-1991) and president (1995-2000) of D.O. Plaza Management Corporation, established by his father. At present he is the president of the Woodland Real Estate Development, Inc. and among the Board of Trustees of NORMISIST (Northern Mindanao State Institute of Science & Technology).
He also served as pressident to the Regional Infrastructure Devt., Corp. from 1989 to February of 2001.
He started in politics as a Representative of the Lone District of Agusan del Sur to the 12th Congress of the Philippines and again to the 13th . He is re-elected to serve for his third term in the 2007 Elections to the 14th Congress of the Philippines
Rep. Plaza is married to Shirley P. Plaza with whom he has five children: Maria Isabel, Paula, Maria Rebecca, Rodolfo Antonio, and Paolo Rodolfo.
